The Emirates Medical Association’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Division recently hosted a groundbreaking workshop in the Arab world. This event focused on female reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, along with functional rejuvenation. It was notable for its practical training using human specimens, setting a new scientific standard in the region
Held at the University of Sharjah’s College of Medicine, the two-day workshop featured collaboration with international experts. The American Urology and Gynecology Society specialists participated, aiming to share expertise and bolster clinical research. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance evidence-based medical practices.

Pioneering Workshop on Women’s Surgery in UAE
The workshop offered two main tracks: non-surgical injectable and advanced surgical techniques. The non-surgical segment covered cosmetic injections, energy-based devices, and bio-therapies like PRP, stem cells, and exosomes. These methods aim to improve tissue quality and speed up wound healing, including cesarean section scars.
The surgical component showcased the latest in reconstructive procedures and functional rejuvenation techniques. It also included clinical assessment methods before and after interventions, focusing on safe management of complications. This comprehensive approach provided participants with a thorough understanding of modern practices in this specialized field.
An intensive hands-on training model was employed during the workshop. Each pair of physicians worked with one human specimen under direct supervision. This setup allowed for precise practice, closely resembling one-on-one surgical training experiences.
Throughout the event, participants engaged in extensive discussions about global best practices and clinical cases. They enriched the program’s scientific content, which is accredited for 12 continuing education hours. This engagement aimed to elevate healthcare service quality in the UAE.
Sheikha Dr. Alia bint Humaid Al Qasimi emphasized that hosting this workshop marked “a defining moment in the advancement of this specialty in the Arab world.” She stated: “Hands-on training using human specimens is a major leap forward. It gives physicians a realistic understanding of precise anatomy and enables them to perform procedures with the highest standards of safety.”
Dr. Alia highlighted that over 60% of women in the region seek treatment abroad due to limited advanced subspecialties locally. She stressed their responsibility to bring global expertise to the UAE through credible training programs that raise healthcare standards both locally and regionally.
The workshop aligns with national priorities like women’s empowerment, medical tourism, and scientific research in niche medical fields. It supports professional development pathways for physicians while enhancing healthcare services across the UAE.
Dr. Alia noted that “Our goal is to empower local physicians, support women, and strengthen patients’ confidence in receiving world-class treatment within the country.” This initiative contributes to boosting medical tourism and reinforces the UAE’s leadership in advanced women’s health specialties across the Arab region.
This pioneering effort by Emirates Medical Association aims not only at aesthetic improvements but also at restoring function and improving women’s quality of life through advanced medical practices.
